Kia’s new design philosophy – “the association of opposites” – is reflected in the design details of the new Sportage, with that inspiration visible in every aspect of its appearance and confident character. This bold and exciting philosophy underscores the relationship between design and the Kia brand’s ‘Inspired Movement’ direction.
The “Union of Opposites” philosophy consists of five pillars: Pleasure of the mind, Ability to progress, Technology for life, Craving for Serenity, and Courage for Nature, which is the design of all new Sportage classes, which the natural embodied, profoundly influenced. It creates a design identity that is bold, emotional, modern, pure and authentic.
Upgrading the exterior design of four-wheel drive vehicles
Inspired by the ‘Union of Opposites’, the vehicle’s exterior contrasts with its bold, striking lines and assertive presence, balanced with innovative and instinctive features suitable for any road, anywhere.
Clear, consecutive lines undulating along the slender body, enhancing the effects of the dramatic design. At the same time, clean yet powerful surfaces combine with intricate graphics to give the SUV a dynamic and assertive presence on the road.
The front end of the brand new Sportage creates instant impact and impressive styling with detailed black grille graphics that run across the width of the car’s face. Like an interwoven web, the technical drawing combines the key front features of the new Sportage, giving it an impressive front volume. The extended grille links Kia’s distinctive “tiger nose” emblem – which serves as the vehicle’s visual focal point – with distinctive, futuristic Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) that create solid lines for the edge of the striking matrix LED matrix headlights.
The profile of the brand new Sportage stays true to its authentic sporting character, creating an exciting road presence with sleek lines that cut across the glossy and polished surfaces of the bodywork, merging contrasting volumes seamlessly. The first model in the Sportage series is a black roof – but the option to paint the car in a different color is not available with the new model, which helps to emphasize the sporty look and the dynamic C-pillar in the car’s architecture. The addition of a chrome belt that extends from the rear of the brand new Sportage to the D-pillar creates harmonious lines with the rear spoiler that adds to the car’s sporty proportions.
At the rear, the new Sportage maintains a strong presence on the road with its powerful curved design flowing smoothly to the rear lights, allowing the SUV to embody power and traction on the road. The transparent taillights have a thin, horizontal design, which gives the brand new Sportage a surprisingly wide impression from behind.
Depending on specification and model, the 2023 Sportage runs on 17-inch, 18-inch or 19-inch wheels of the best range, with a choice of five different alloy designs, colors and finishes.
The interior of the brand new Sportage reflects a boldness in character, offering intuitive and innovative technology, to create a truly modern driver-oriented space.
The cabin has been designed with both the driver and passengers in mind, providing a unique high-tech environment that is visually impressive, as well as spacious and easy to use. At the center of the new Sportage’s modern cabin is a beautifully sculpted integrated curved screen with a panel that ensures a slim touch screen and finely detailed air vents. The curved screen extends across the front of the cabin, giving the cabin tremendous width and depth.
The 12-inch high-tech touch screen and advanced integrated console serve as the nerve center to connect the driver, passengers, functions and all needs. Both systems are created to be easy to use, and at the same time extremely intuitive, pleasant to the touch. The 12-inch dashboard is equipped with the latest generation full-transistor thin-film LCD screens for impressively clear and accurate graphics.
The ergonomic center console is optimally positioned for the driver and front passenger, offering storage, operating system configuration, and soft-touch cup holders and switches, located high on the side next to the transmission switch.
Throughout the cabin, high-quality materials are used to give the customer a luxurious feel, while dynamic color options add dynamism and energy to the atmosphere. The driver and front passenger seats combine innovation and comfort in a sporty, slim design.
The rear of the driver and the front passenger seats have an integrated hanger-type design inside the slim headrests, so clothes and handbags can be held in place easily and comfortably.
Fully immersive surround sound inside the car is also available for new Sportage occupants to enjoy via the leading Harman Kardon premium sound system.
Efficiency, power and performance are at the heart of the brand new Sportage
The brand new Sportage is introduced with a comprehensive range of powerful, responsive and efficient power lines, including the latest generation of clean petrol and diesel engine technology.
Since the beginning of development, the aim of the new Sportage has been to incorporate the latest technological breakthroughs in the field of propulsion system, making it one of the most efficient and environmentally friendly sport utility vehicles available.
With the launch, a high-tech 1.6-liter TGDI propulsion system will be offered in the new Sportage range, delivering 180 hp and 27.0 kg / m of torque. The four-cylinder unit achieves improved fuel efficiency through an advanced new combustion process, improved cooling technologies and measures to reduce key frictional power, including an advanced integrated thermal management system and the use of a low-friction ball bearing.
Leadership in security
The brand new Sportage houses the latest active safety technologies and advanced driver assistance systems. With safety a top priority during the development of this model, the fifth generation of the Sportage is one of the safest cars in its class.
Beneath the brand new Sportage’s sleek, contemporary exterior design is a reinforced, lightweight body with high torsional stiffness. The brand new Sportage has several applications for safety setting and the chassis system, including driver airbag, passenger airbag, side airbags and lower side airbags.
The Kia Sportage’s in-house Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) technology also helps avoid potential hazards, and fully protects occupants and other road users on every ride. As part of this package, the brand new Sportage features the leading Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), which helps avoid collisions with objects in front of the vehicle while driving.
When the lane change signal is on, if there is a risk of hitting a rear vehicle, the Blind Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) will issue a warning to the driver. After the warning, if the risk of a collision increases, the BCA effectively takes control of the Sportage to help avoid collision. The BCA is also active in situations such as parallel parking maneuvers, which further help to avoid collisions with vehicles behind. A Blind Spot View Monitor (BVM) has also been included with all new Sportage grades to further enhance safety and driver visibility when changing lanes by displaying a real-time image of the rear of the vehicle in the instrument cluster.
The launch will take place independently in each regional market through the month of April. More information on prices and specifications in each market will be provided in due course.
