The inauguration of the College of Information Technology at Lusail University

He revealed that from the fall of the 2022 semester (13), the university will introduce new programs, some in Arabic and others in English, through four colleges: the College of Education and the Arts, and it offers a Bachelor’s degree in Education, a major in Teaching English (English), a Bachelor’s degree in Arts, a major in Political Science (Arabic), BA in Education, Counseling and Mental Health (Arabic). And the College of Law offering BA in Law (Arabic). The College of Trade and Business offers the following programs: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (Arabic), Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Insurance and Risk Management (Arabic), Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Administration, Bachelor of Arts (Arabic) Marketing (Arabic), Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Major Management (Arabic), Bachelor in Business Administration, Performance in Supply Chain Management (Arabic). The College of Information Technology offers the following programs: Baccalaureus Scientiae in Information Technology, Major in Cyber ​​Security (English), Baccalaureus Scientiae in Information Technology, Major in Artificial Intelligence (English), Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, Major in Electronic Design and Electronic Games .

He pointed out that this is due to the retention of the existing programs at Lusail University, which are: Bachelor’s Degree in Law from Sorbonne University (French language), and Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, specializing in Logistics Resource Management in partnership with Shippensburg University (English language).

He said: The importance of the program lies in the fact that information technology is the cornerstone of any economy in the world. Where information technology has become an integral part of everyone’s life in modern society and with the spread of internet and communication applications, information technology plays a major role in the development of the society in Qatar. Therefore, it is only natural for Lusail University to offer an IT degree program with a strong IT foundation in three unique areas: Artificial Intelligence, Cyber ​​Security and Game Development.

Artificial intelligence

On the specialization of artificial intelligence, he said: Among the recommendations of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy for the State of Qatar is to “develop a strong academic and experimental educational curriculum for Qatar’s future of artificial intelligence.” Then Lusail University decided to offer the program with a specialization in the fields of artificial intelligence, and this program will be unique in Qatar, where other universities offer a degree in computer science, cyber security, networking and systems management, but artificial intelligence is not currently available in Qatar.

Cyber ​​security

On the specialization of cybersecurity, he explained that the field of information technology is experiencing an increasing demand, especially through the applications used in our personal and professional lives, so the importance of graduates of information technology fields in general, especially cybersecurity, where attacks, risks and electronic offenses are constantly increasing every minute, which has made the specialization of security Cybercrime required worldwide, especially to protect against cybercrime and comply with legal standards and foundations for information and privacy.

Electronic games

Regarding the design and development of electronic games, he stressed that the idea of ​​integrating electronic games into educational curricula began after digital games penetrated the minds of this generation, with most of them containing scenes of violence or false beliefs. , in addition to the long time most people play. However, the game development specialization is not currently available in Qatar.

Admission policies

Regarding the admissions policies at Lusail University, Professor Fatima Mansour Al-Mosleh, Vice President for Student Affairs, explained that the admissions policies for new students wishing to enroll in either the College of Education and the Arts or the College of Trade and Business in the Arabic Language Course is that the applicant has proficiency in the Arabic language. It is considered compliance with the admission requirements if the applicant has obtained an average of (65%) in the Qatari General Secondary Certificate or higher, or if the applicant is a graduate of private or public schools inside or outside the state of Qatar or outside the State of Qatar in which the language of instruction is Arabic and has obtained an average of (65%) or higher, or if the applicant’s average in the General Secondary Certificate or its equivalent is between (60% -64%), and the student degree is (70%) or higher in the Arabic language course.

And it indicated that in the event that the above admission requirements are not met, the applicant must take a placement test in the Arabic language through Lusail University, in the following cases: If the applicant’s average in the General Secondary Certificate or the equivalent thereof is between (60% -64%) and it was The student’s score is less than (70%) in the Arabic language course, or if the applicant’s average is less than (65%) in the Qatari General Secondary Certificate or its equivalent of private or government school certificates inside or outside the state of Qatar in which the language of instruction is Arabic. Or if the applicant is a graduate of international or private schools inside or outside the state of Qatar, in which the language of instruction is a language other than Arabic (English – French), (regardless of the high school diploma).

With regard to the admission policies of the College of Information Technology, Ms. Fatima Al-Musleh said it is represented in the high school pass with a rate of at least 65%. The applicant must also be proficient in mathematics, confirming that the student is deemed to meet the admission requirements: if he has a score of 24 on the ACT or a score of 550 or higher on the SAT (Mathematics Division – Old Test ) or a score of 570 or higher on the SAT (Mathematics Division – New Test) or an accumulator score of 235 or higher, or a high school math score of 70 or higher or equivalent.
