In politics as well as in economics and sociology …. The gap between the people and the political leadership is widening

Written by: Rabah Gabr

Popular circles expressing their dissatisfaction, or at least their dissatisfaction with the political performance of the Palestinian Authority and the political leadership of the Palestinian Liberation Organization, are constantly expanding, almost 29 years after the signing of the Oslo Accords and the establishment of the Palestinian Authority.

The reason for this dissatisfaction and dissatisfaction lies in various reasons affecting the political struggle issue, and the futile and waiting policies that led to it harming the project and the national struggle, as well as poverty, unemployment, high prices, despair and loss. the youth, especially unemployed graduates, and to dissatisfaction About the role of the security services and their interference in people’s lives all indicate what is worse than the current situation:

First, on the political and national side, the state of regression, impotence, and the absence of politics will continue to respond to the occupation’s actions, its daily crimes, settlement operations, theft of Palestinian land, and the Judaization of Jerusalem, despite the consists of various decisions taken by the Palestinian National and Central Councils to respond on the one hand to the crimes of the occupation, and on the other hand a rally The strengths of the Palestinian people and their leadership.

The Palestinian leadership’s handling of these decisions has damaged their credibility in the eyes of large sectors of the Palestinian people, and even the threat to implement them, threaten them, and at least name and remind them (even though they were decisions that were made). is to implement and not threaten), disappears from the last statement of the Executive Committee Issued last Thursday 23/6.

The reason for the Palestinian leadership’s unwillingness to implement decisions and rise to the level of national responsibility is largely due to the continued bet on the Americans, although they openly declare that their goal is to integrate the occupying state into the Arab region and further normalization of other Arab countries within the framework of the so-called. Abraham’s agreements “and the formation of a Middle Eastern NATO led by Israel. Although Palestinian political circles are aware that the United States has completely different priorities, such as the war in Ukraine, China, energy and the Iranian file, and not interested in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and even Eden’s election promise to the The US Consulate in East Jerusalem and the reopening of the PLO office in Washington did not heed and are subject to the Israeli veto.

The response of the political leadership to American, European and Arab pressure, by preventing any Palestinian decision that leads to a clash with or an explosion in the face of the occupation, its measures and its crimes, does more damage to the struggle of the Palestinians. people, its national project and its resistance to the occupation, to the extent that the Palestinian leadership appears to be taking a stand that says, “The normal relationship with the occupation is calm, not conflict.”

Second: The economic and social policies pursued by the Palestinian Authority are exhausting the Palestinian citizen in terms of high taxes, fees, high prices, the decrease in the purchase value of wages, the wide imbalance between income and expenditure due to the high prices of basic and consumer goods, the phenomenon of unemployment, especially among graduates, and the deprivation of large social segments of middle groups have the right to obtain their opportunities for economic and social progress in the absence of a realistic development policy.

On the other hand, the factional interests and privileges acquired by the influential bureaucratic segments in the institutions of the Palestinian Authority, and their alliance with comprador business owners who enjoy privileges and legal and service facilities and tax exemptions that dominate the blood of the Palestinian economy like parasites .

Thirdly, with regard to the democratic aspect and the prejudice to freedom of expression, demonstration and peaceful assembly, and the interference of the security services in people’s lives, there is nothing wrong with that. Government must still get security clearance, and this is against the Palestinian Constitution, and the security services and informants are still in universities. They spoil the academic and democratic life in them and distort the process of education for an entire generation that is supposed to later leading the national struggle and the institutions of society.

The attack on peaceful movements and sit-ins, as happened in the high-price Hebron sit-in protest, for example, represents an addictive approach without learning from previous experiences.

And cases have reached the authority to the point of releasing the killers of Nizar Girls under false pretenses, which constitutes an underestimation of public opinion, which has been greatly intensified by this case and provoked widespread criticism in the Palestinian street.

This gap, which is constantly widening between the people and the government and the influential political leadership, can lead, if it continues, to dangerous and ominous consequences for the social structure and the field and national unity in the resistance to the occupation, if matters do not corrected in each of the three axes mentioned, the way and the way to get things right is crystal clear:

* On the political and militant side, this was expressed by the decisions of the successive national and central councils, the meetings of the Palestinian leadership and the meeting of secretaries-general, including the implementation of the decisions of the recent Central Council, including the stop security coordination, withdrawal from the recognition of the occupying state and the formation of a united leadership, all with the need to intensify efforts to restore national unity in The framework of the institutions of the Liberation Organization and the end of the division, in order to to strengthen the internal Palestinian. home and enable it to bear the burdens of confrontation with the occupation.

* On the democratic side, it is necessary to spread democracy and freedom, achieve social justice, equality in citizenship and rights without discrimination, prevent the hands of the security services from interfering in people’s lives, the principle of separation of powers respect, protect rights and public freedoms, and conduct general legislative and presidential elections and the National Council.

In the socio-economic aspect, the way out is to adopt an integrated socio-economic policy that takes into account the objective conditions and the unique characteristics of the Palestinian situation and leads to the strengthening of the stability of Palestinian society in the face of the occupation and its policies, and the Palestinian economic decoupling of the Paris Protocol and the dependence of the economy on the occupied state.
