Students of the Environmental Architecture Program at the College of Engineering at the University of Bahrain presented their projects for the planning and design of the waterfront off the coast of Al-Dur in the Southern Governor, in honor of the students participating in the project, who was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipalities Business and Agriculture.

The Dean of the College of Engineering at the University, Dr. Sheikha Haifa bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, indicated that the involvement of students in the production of development projects is in line with the university’s efforts to prepare them through sustainable projects for professional practice. the valuable opportunity that the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture offers to students in this regard.

Sheikha Haifa bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa – in a speech during the honorary ceremony – indicated that these projects represent the development of modern ideas with a youthful vision, as they designed the waterfront to be a landmark for visitors in line with the national strategy for the development of waterfronts and public coast. She said: “Through this experience, the students learned various concepts related to the environment and its effects, green areas, afforestation, beautification, and more, through the suggestions they presented.”

Sixteen male and female students presented their plans and proposed designs for the project’s waterfront in the courtyard of the e-learning center on the university campus, where officials from the Ministry of Municipalities and Agriculture and university professors were briefed on the students’ projects. they spoke before the tribute.

The event was attended by the Director-General of the Municipality of the Southern Region, Assem Abdullatif Abdullah, the Director-General of the Municipality of the Northern Region, Lamia Yousef Al-Fadala, the Dean of the College of Engineering, and the Principal of the Department of Architecture and Interior Design, Dr Hoda Muhammad Al-Madhoub, with faculty members and guests.

The Director-General of the Municipality of the Southern Region, Asim Abdullatif Abdullah, expressed his admiration and pride in the students’ levels and expressed his optimism about the ability of the National University to provide the market with qualified cadres, generation after generation . In a short speech at the event, he said: “After seeing the projects today, I am optimistic that the University of Bahrain – to which I graduated – is the birth of talented creative engineers, who country needs within the comprehensive development process. ”

In turn, Head of the Department of Architecture and Interior Design, Dr. Huda Al-Madhoub, said: “The collaboration with the Southern Region Municipality has made it possible to link the academic perspective with practical practice by including actual projects at the school. Curricula.”

And she continued, in a speech during the ceremony: “The aim of the Al-Dour Coastal Project is for students to participate in the planning and design of the Al-Dour Coastal Area. This project has been implemented within the requirements of the course. . LNDA 310 For third-year students in the Bachelor of Environmental Architecture program, specializing in the design of urban natural areas, taking into account the environmental and technological aspects of the site, and focusing on increasing public green spaces and social outdoor activities, in order to achieve sustainable goals development.

She indicated d. Al-Madhoub said that “through this project, the students have acquired a set of creative concepts and different practices that take into account the aesthetic, environmental and social aspects of the site.”

Head of the Parks and Parks Department in the Southern Region Municipality, Alaa Shamlan Al-Shamlan, took note of the partnership between the National University and the municipality, and stressed the importance of continuing the bridge between the two sides in recreational and cosmetic projects within the directions of municipal affairs, to upgrade facades, streets and public areas, and to increase afforestation, beautification and green flats.

Al-Shamlan emphasized the effective role of professors in the Department of Architecture and Interior Design in supporting students to complete projects and encouraging them to create innovative creative ideas.

In turn, the coordinator of the Environmental Architecture Program, dr. Wafaa Hassan Al-Madani, explains that “the project is included in the requirements of the course LNDA 310 specializing in the design of urban natural areas, “and note that” students were instructed to consider the environmental and technological aspects of the site and to focus on increasing public green spaces and outdoor social activities, in response to the sustainable development agenda. ”

Al-Madani noted that “the students conducted extensive and in-depth studies on the site, and the result of this effort was a variety of creative concepts that elicited a distinctive response as the students entered the site in kind. took into account the aesthetic, environmental and social aspects. ”

The students presented a film about the project, its stages and content before organizing to be honored by officials from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and the Dean of the College of Engineering at the university. The students’ projects were characterized by depth and diversity, as each student took an aesthetic, environmental or historical general idea for his design of the waterfront in the Al-Dur area.
