Every day, here and there, and through news bulletins and social networking sites, we see news about the murder and violence of women, some of which receive attention, such as the case of Naira Ashraf in Egypt, including what happens and ends and remains a secret, and the broad title of it all is “Crimes.” The Syrian drama has previously presented some dramatic lines within the series, or as episodes that dealt with these stories, but in a timid or unadulterated way, such as the “Case 508” episode in the series “The Biography of Love” starring Dima Bayaa and Milad Youssef, which dealt with the law that provides for the acquittal of the rapist If he marries the victim.

Over the past month, however, more than one case has been reported in Arab countries for “honor” and women’s issues, and this coincided with the presentation of “Honor” written by Diana Jabbour, directed by her son Majid Al-Khatib as the first director experience in the drama, and produced and presented by the “Weyak” platform, as it is one of the It is supposed to be shown during the Ramadan season, but due to the sensitivity of the work and its cause and audacity to present it, its makers decided to postpone the show for now.

The text in the work is based on women’s stories and the direct confrontation with masculinity in society, by focusing on societies far from the spotlight that did not develop with the development of time, but live on in their own customs and traditions. it, and wear. more than one aspect of the suffering of women and girls, such as cases of rape in childhood And the negative consequences it leaves due to the girl’s silence and her lack of courage to talk about the issue, even sometimes with her family , and the loss of virginity, intentionally or unintentionally, in addition to the issue of marital rape. This justifies the postponement of work outside Ramadan to take its right to the show, in addition to using the phrase +18 at the beginning as a clear indication of the makers’ knowledge of the accuracy of what is put into it.

The story begins with the character “Asia” embodied by the actress Amal Arafa, who at the beginning of the work is asked by a woman she knows to reveal her daughter to see if she is a virgin or not . When she discovers that she is not a virgin but also pregnant, “Asia” decides to hide the truth, to save the girl from “murder”. Asiya takes a false oath to protect the girl from her community because she knows that murder is the immediate fate facing her and her fetus. The story begins with “Asia” in her struggle between the ideas implanted in her head as an oriental girl working as a nurse and living with her mother, the midwife (legal midwife) and between helping the girls and to protect them from the same society to which she belongs through gastric bypass surgery and other solutions.

It seems that the woven screenplay and the exciting story spurred Arafa to agree to the work, even though it was the director’s first directing experience. But this is not surprising to her, because when she agreed to play in Ramy Koussa’s “Al-Qurban” series, it was his first experience as a writer, and Majid Al-Khatib did not disappoint her choice. This young man, who played the character Nizar Qabbani in his childhood, we expected him to follow the acting path later, but decided to study film in the United States, to become a director like his father Basil Al-Khatib, who directed Nizar. Qabbani and many other series. His film studies were evident in the work by translating the cinematic language into the work and focusing on decoration, projections and symbols, so that most of the shots were carefully chosen, and there were no empty moments or intentional lengthening as in other series. At the beginning of the work, he chose to start focusing on the symbolism of the “rooster” as an indication that the actors in the work mostly belong to the male mind embodied in the rooster’s handling of the hen. .

It is perhaps difficult to hold Majid al-Khatib to account, as he is still in the beginning. It is possible to reduce and accept some of the decayed in the series, while in later experiments it is possible to separate the film situation from the television situation, because the small screen can not be overwhelmed by the abundance of details that can be neglected or does not seem clear to the viewer, and to the eyes of a film director.

The choice of actors in “Sharaf” was appropriately in addition to the text, which carried connotations that did not provide scenes of the Syrian war, which made the interdependence and “chemistry” of the actors present among them. Firas Ibrahim, Joan Khader and Majd Fadda did their best in an interesting setting, even actresses like Hana Nassour and Abeer Shams El Din. The work is recognized by giving opportunities to young faces, such as Marah Hijaz and Eliana Saad, who have played clear roles announcing themselves as future stars. The duo of Wael Ramadan and actress Dojana Issa form an additional revolution against the tradition of performance .

Dojana Issa, the woman who is raped by her sadistic, influential husband, has been trying since the first day of their marriage to discourage him from abusing her, beating her and raping her. She lives in a state of loss, all because the man buys the money for a car he gives to her mother, or a job he insures for her father. But when he decides to give it to another man, she decides to become a criminal in her own defense, so she tortures and kills him, placing you between the sympathizer of the murderer and the evil of the murdered.

Actress Sabah Al-Jazaery, as the mother of “Asia”, added strength, weakness, tenderness and cruelty, and we saw a very passionate duo in the dialogue between Arafa and Al-Jazaery, perhaps because it is not the first time is that the two actresses met while working together in “Old Days” and “Ishtar”. Of course, the Algerian can turn the trajectory of the story, as she did in the series “Suspended of Execution”, despite the few scenes in it as well.
