ABU DHABI, 7 July, WAM / The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Colombian Ministry of Mining and Energy, with the aim of providing opportunities for cooperation, capacity building, exchange of knowledge and information, support for joint projects discuss and initiatives, as well as the promotion of development and scientific, technological, administrative and commercial knowledge in the field of energy for both parties.
The memorandum of understanding comes within the framework of the two parties’ zeal to work together and explore more opportunities in various related fields in order to achieve various common goals of diversifying energy sources and achieving the best energy efficiency figures to access reliable, sustainable and affordable energy.
The signing of the memorandum of understanding took place during an event held at the headquarters of the Department of Energy in Abu Dhabi, in the presence of His Excellency Eng. Ahmed Mohammed Al Rumaithi, Deputy Secretary of the Department, and His Excellency Jaime Amin, Ambassador of the Republic of Colombia to the UAE, who signed the memorandum on behalf of His Excellency Diego Mesa, Minister of Mining and Energy of Colombia.
His Excellency Eng. Ahmed Mohammed Al Rumaithi said: “In the Department of Energy, we seek to improve cooperation and partnerships with various relevant authorities in various countries of the world, based on the importance of the partnership approach in achieving our various goals of developing the whole sector and the improvement of energy efficiency in order to meet local energy and water needs. Reliable and sustainable now and in the future, contributing to supporting Abu Dhabi’s path to sustainable economic development. ”
His Excellency added: “We are pleased to work with the Colombian Ministry of Mining and Energy to open new horizons in our fruitful relationships and to explore opportunities for cooperation that will bring us more positive results. His Excellency has demonstrated that the energy sector is constant, the need for more experience and expertise to apply energy technology and upgrade the sector’s infrastructure. To provide it with trained human cadres who can work to achieve all our strategic goals.
His Excellency said: We look forward to working with the Colombian side to the benefit of both parties and to benefiting from our shared experiences in creating a role model in the field of energy.
His Excellency Diego Mesa, Minister of Mining and Energy of Colombia, in turn said: “Colombia is currently seeking to transform the energy sector as a way to achieve self-sufficiency in the energy system and levels of efficiency and flexibility in this important sector, and this is one of the common goals between Colombia and the United Arab Emirates, therefore we decided to conclude a strategic alliance between the Colombian Ministry of Mining and Energy and the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy, which reflects the efforts of the two countries to accelerate the rate of dependence on unconventional renewable energy sources, to develop technologies to reduce carbon emissions, and to address and reverse the effects of climate change. ” Under the 5-year memorandum of understanding, the two parties agreed to exchange experiences, knowledge and studies, and to explore opportunities for collaboration to finance projects in a number of energy fields, including production, use and storage of hydrogen, unconventional renewable energy on a large scale, and project development in the fields of hydrogen, geothermal and wind energy. On land, offshore, solar, biomass and other clean energy technologies, as well as promoting sustainable transportation of clean energy sources, development of technologies related to advanced energy measurement and monitoring systems, access to energy services, including renewable energy solutions, promotion of foreign investment in the energy sector, and energy efficiency. Response to energy and energy demand, development of carbon capture technology and promotion of energy storage technology.
The two parties also agreed to improve cooperation in various areas, such as the exchange of information through the sharing of studies, data and statistics, the improvement of training and the building of capacity through the design and implementation of training programs for the benefit of both parties. , holding meetings and organizing workshops or the like for experts regarding the analysis of common challenges and strategic solutions in the Energy sector and the conduct of joint research studies that address the needs of both sides.
The Department of Energy in Abu Dhabi has also agreed with the Colombian Ministry of Mining and Energy to exchange visits by experts from both parties to follow up collaborative activities, in addition to exploring opportunities for the implementation of joint projects and research and facilitation. of their design, financing and implementation, in addition to involving the private sector in both countries in energy infrastructure projects with sources Clean energy and pilot projects related to hydrogen, geothermal, onshore and offshore wind energy, solar energy, biomass and other clean energy sources.
