Saudi Crown Prince Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced the designs of “The Line” city in NEOM, which aims to achieve ideal life and address the pressing challenges facing humanity.
The crown prince said that the exceptional designs of “The Line” illustrate the multilayered internal structure of the city, adding: “We cannot ignore the environmental and lifestyle crisis that the cities of the world are facing.”
He pointed out that the city “The Line” in Neom contains a high-speed train that connects the two ends of the city in 20 minutes.
The crown prince continued: “We intend to implement the idea of building upwards in the city.” The glass surfaces will be reflective mirrors on both sides of the “Line”, so that its details can merge with nature.
Prince Mohammed indicated that The Line will be built according to the latest construction technologies and manufacturing processes, and NEOM will design the entire city digitally, adding that a team of world-renowned architects and engineers will be appointed.
The Line also introduces a new approach to urban design based on the concept of zero gravity, and will be the place for dreamers of a better tomorrow, in which everyone will make their innovative mark, according to the Saudi Crown Prince said.
He emphasized that the new city signifies the Kingdom’s firm commitment to present a project to the whole world, noting that NEOM includes a group of the world’s brightest minds in architecture and construction.
The designs of The Line are a reflection of what urban communities will be like in the future in an environment free of streets, cars and emissions, and contribute to preserving 95% of NEOM’s land for nature, and rely on 100% renewable energy, to make human health and well-being an absolute priority instead of The priority of transport and infrastructure as in traditional cities.
One of the most important specifications of The Line is that it is only 200 meters wide, 170 kilometers long and 500 meters above sea level.
The city will be built on an area of no more than 34 square kilometers, and will house approximately 9 million people, which is completely unprecedented in cities of this size. This in turn reduces the expansion of the infrastructure, and increases the efficiency and sustainability of the city in a distinctive way. The perfect climate throughout the year will ensure that residents can enjoy nature when traveling on foot. “The Line” allows all residents to access all facilities and services within 5 minutes, in addition to the presence of a high-speed train that connects the two ends of the city within 20 minutes.
Prince Muhammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Chairman of the NEOM Board of Directors, elaborated: “When we launched “The Line”, we promised to redefine the concept of urban development by developing societies where people the main focus is , and today “The Line” achieves the ideal of life and addresses challenges. The urgency that humanity faces, these exceptional designs clarify the internal structure of the multi-layer city and address the problems of traditional horizontal flatten cities, and achieve complete harmony between urban development and the preservation of nature with all its resources.”
He added: “We cannot ignore the environmental crisis as well as the lifestyle crisis facing the cities of the world. That is why we at NEOM aim to be at the forefront of providing new and innovative solutions. Today is we are determined to implement the idea of ’building to the top’, by a team led by NEOM, in addition to some of the world’s brightest minds in architecture and construction.”
He continued, “The NEOM project is one of the important projects in Vision 2030, and The Line is a confirmation of our firm commitment to present a project to the whole world, as NEOM is a place for those who dream of a better tomorrow, in which everyone will put their innovative and creative stamp.”
The line offers a new approach to city design that focuses on the concept of “zero gravity”, which means distributing and building the city’s components in the form of vertical layers, allowing people to move in three directions (up, down and horizontally in each direction). Unlike the concept of high-rise buildings, this idea makes it easier to move between places of daily needs within five minutes, from workplaces, schools, parks and homes.
The two exterior sides of the city are covered with glass surfaces, which are reflective mirrors that give it a unique character, and make its details merge with nature.
While the interior spaces are designed in innovative ways, to create extraordinary experiences and unforgettable moments, by a team of world-renowned architects and engineers who work on an ongoing basis with the NEOM team.
It is worth noting that NEOM, in its quest to develop business as usual in its various projects, will design the entire city digitally, as well as use the latest construction technologies and manufacturing processes.
This announcement of the designs of The Line comes as a continuation of the progress seen by NEOM in the development of its main projects, as it previously announced the launch of “Oxagon”, the city of advanced industries, and “Trogina”, the global tourist destination that offers the first experience of snow skiing in the air. In the Arabian Gulf, in addition to the launch of two NEOM subsidiaries, the “Inwa” company, which deals with innovations and the energy, water and hydrogen industries, and the NEOM digital technology company.
