Al-Azhar Observatory said that extremism, with its varied forms, must have motives. Because an extremist person is not born so well, but he is a person who stays together until these motives collectively or dispersed gradually influence him in some way, explaining that their impact varies from one place to another according to the environment that the person who is likely to fall into the clutches of extremism. Perhaps the motive behind the extremism of the individual is the environment in which he lives or that surrounds him.

And the observatory continued in its latest report: What now seems clear is that societies are teeming with many abnormal behaviors, which directly or indirectly affect the formation of young people and youth who are the fuel of countries and their future, and come under these behaviors the “deviation from normal human instinct.” Man is by nature instinctive to love all that is good and to abhor all that is bad, and that the deviation and corruption that occurs in man is due to external causes.

Al-Azhar Observatory: Systematic distortion of normal human nature is one of the main pillars of extremism

The observatory added that in addition to the fact that today’s societal reality is characterized by disintegration and conflict, where there are various entities such as: social networking sites, media platforms, art, sports and other institutions, which can work spontaneously or systematically to create a negative impact on young people and the youth, by spreading false values, and portraying the criminal in the form of a heroic hero, at a time when he commits acts that contradict normal human nature, which we notice very clearly in some works of art that softly entrench terror (bullying), to distort the normal instinct of young people.

And he added: Day by day, deviance becomes a model rooted in the minds of young people, and unfortunately there are many games and materials that systematically produce soft forces to destroy the normal instinct of young people and youth, through content that seeks to normalize some immoral behavior, especially homosexuality, to destroy the system of moral and social values of the family, distort the identity of its members and tamper with the security and stability of societies.

He continued: For example, the famous Walt Disney Company intends to produce cartoons for children that violate religious, human and societal values, and is working to normalize this heinous crime, as the Disney Entertainment Content Officer confirmed that there is an intention is to transform and produce about 50% of the characters.Comics appearing in cartoons and series by the end of 2022 AD refer to gay characters, as an effort to support the LGBT community. In addition, there are games and costumes for children that aim to normalize them on the colors of the LGBT flag, such as the famous Bubbles game, and others.

The report continued: Just as there are positive effects of cartoons for the positive behavior they may instill, build the child’s habits and skills and provide him with many good teachings and experiences, there are negative effects on young people. It works to enact or glorify violence in the child, and can even completely destroy the positive values the child has acquired through his family or school, when cartoons are devoid of virtuous morals and noble values, and entrenched in rebellion against identity and healthy societal values, and even tamper with the normal sound instinct of the child. Which affects the identity of the child, his mental health and behavior; Which makes it a hotbed for violence and extremism. Hence the role of the family in the education of individuals; As it represents the first building block of society, and the first cradle for the formation of the child’s psychologically, behaviourally, socially and cognitively healthy personality, it is the first source of water for the child to drink from Parents’ failure to the preservation of the family and the absence of role models, make its members easy prey for extremist and terrorist organizations.

Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism emphasized that the family’s education system directly influences the formation of the individual during the different stages of development he goes through. This can lead him to fanaticism towards his community or country; Due to the lack of a culture of tolerance, coexistence and acceptance of the other, which can clearly occur in some societies with multiple sects, nationalities and ethnicities.

The Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism believes that we can overcome this dilemma by preparing and activating curricula, media materials and recreational activities that instill and nurture moderate values and renounce violence, reviving the practice of critical thinking that distinguishes the bad . from the good in the hearts of young people. To avoid intellectual, psychological and behavioral disorders that may arise as a result of a defect in the behavior of the educator, or from a lack of care and the absence of family control over the content presented to children, or from the accompaniment of bad friends, or of feelings of frustration and lack, or a lack of self-confidence, these reasons that can drive the individual to break out of society due to these ambiguous circumstances.

The Observatory called on all institutions and bodies to work on immunizing children against extremist ideology at the pre-school stage. Because that stage represents the first place in a child’s life to get to know his external world, and to exploit that stage to plant the seeds of tolerance and acceptance of others in the stage of the child’s subconscious. The awareness-raising role of art in the fight against extremism must also be strengthened, by writing texts that elevate people, refine conscience, contribute to awareness among young people, patriotism and should instill in their hearts, deepen the culture of peace and dialogue, to curb. violence, terrorism and cruelty, and combating extremist ideology.
