Upon arrival at Male International Airport and after passing immigration formalities, guests are greeted by Soneva Airport staff, who take care of baggage and assist with check-in at Manta Airways, to ensure seaplane boarding passes are secured.
Once checked in for the seaplane transfer, guests are transferred to the seaplane station, which is across the airport perimeter (5 minute drive provided by the resort). Here guests can wait for their seaplane transfer to the resort in the cozy Soneva Lounge where a refreshing drink and some snacks are served. Air (sea) transport arrangements are very well organised.
The 30-minute seaplane transfer to Soneva Fushi is a scenic sightseeing excursion in itself.
The plane flies very low over the Indian Ocean and offers a breathtaking view of the small sugar-white island’s sparkling rings of turquoise lagoons and a brilliant sapphire blue ocean. The seaplane lands at Soneva Fushi International Airport, which has to be one of the most amazing airports in the world: a small wooden deck along the island’s coast. From there, you only need five minutes by speedboat to reach the wonderful resort arrival pier. Seaplanes land a short distance from the resort so as not to disturb the island’s guests.
Soneva Fushi is a tropical paradise like no other in the world. The whole island is covered with a wonderful green forest and surrounded by deep white beaches, lined with palm trees and a sparkling clear turquoise lagoon. From a scenic perspective, it’s the most stunning island I’ve visited in the Indian Ocean archipelago of the Maldives, and its beautiful, fine-sand beaches easily rank among the best in the world.
Besides being insanely beautiful, Soneva Fushi is also one of the largest islands in the Maldives, measuring less than 1.5 kilometers (0.9 mi) long and 0.5 kilometers (0.3 mi) wide. Upon arrival, guests are provided with bicycles to get around for the duration of their stay. It is a pleasure to wander along the many sandy paths in the forest and enjoy the wonderful species of trees and foliage, as well as the wildlife, from the adorable fruit bats to the cute bunnies on the move.
Soneva Fushi’s “no news, no shoes” policy encourages a casual atmosphere among all guests. On a short speedboat ride from the seaplane dock to the resort, Soneva’s staff remove shoes and store them for the duration of the guests’ stay. There is no dress code on the island, something that might come as a welcome break compared to some other luxury resorts in the Maldives where dress codes are enforced in restaurants, such as requiring men to wear long pants (in the tropics! ).
From the moment guests touch (barefoot) the beaches of Soneva Fushi, a personal butler is available to assist them during their stay. These attendants have clearly been handpicked for how similar they look and their level of service is distinct and intuitive – just think about it, your wish has come true! Soneva offers the best in hospitality service around the world.
The resort’s elegant eco-design blends with the surroundings of the Maldives and contributes to the feeling of harmony with nature. All the hotel’s suites, including the villa accommodation, are built with local materials, topped with a palm leaf ceiling, decorated with elegant and bright cushions, and decorated with simple, yet elegant furniture. This is barefoot luxury at its best, albeit in a simple and environmentally conscious way.
64 thatched, multi-bedroom beach villas are spread along the coast. While hidden among thick foliage (and barely visible from the beach), they all overlook the Indian Ocean. The elegant and sophisticated villas are large in size and rank among the largest hotel accommodations in the world. They come in several categories, ranging from the one-bedroom Crusoe villas to the nine-bedroom private park. Each villa aims to offer a kind of Robinson Crusoe experience, where you feel like you are stranded on its own island, with its own garden and white sandy beach just a short distance away.
The resort staff is one of the best in the world. They will serve guests with unmatched professionalism. They know your names and know your desires without saying it! I don’t know how they can do these tasks but management and training must play an important role!
The variety of food at the resort is the biggest test! The quality and variety is second to none!
Of course, the Kids Club is one of the biggest kids clubs in the Maldives. It offers children various features of drawing, cake making, climbing, private pool, Lego rooms and many other activities. Parents don’t need to worry about them, the kids are in safe hands and they will enjoy their time!
As for the spa, it is definitely unique in every way. Available treatments and excellent experience with specialized consultants in all procedures.
And of course in the Maldives you must try the Zip Line. A wonderful experience that everyone should do. Don’t worry even though it’s the longest in the Maldives, the experience is Bucket List and the crew explains the steps and makes this experience unforgettable!
