UAE.. and support efforts to transform into a global center for artificial intelligence

The rapid increase in the use of artificial intelligence technology, in ways that have a direct impact on all areas of our daily lives, is exceptional in every sense of the word and has many positive aspects. Many countries are racing to achieve these potential gains to improve the health of their people and improve their various sectors. However, the issue of familiarity with the basics of artificial intelligence technology is seen as a major obstacle in the way for these countries to achieve these gains.

With the launch of the UAE Artificial Intelligence Strategy in 2017, it is the responsibility of all of us to understand this rapidly evolving technology.

Analysts at PricewaterhouseCoopers estimate that while the Middle East will enjoy around 2% of the global benefits of AI technology by 2030, the UAE will have the largest share of this impact, with technology contributing around 13.6% of GDP. Total ($96 billion) by 2030.
It is very important to understand that AI is just a technology – a tool that humans can master and use, and most of the applications we use today depend primarily on the human intelligence that designs and develops them has. Since AI already performs an important function, the potential of this technology heralds a promising future, and is not just a commodity to be traded.
Current AI promotion ideas revolve around the potential for this technology to be deployed across a variety of industries to help promote speed and clarity, as well as provide first-hand information in the best possible way. AI can use data to create patterns or advance drug development in a way that can identify symptoms of disease much earlier than humans.

Given all these reasons, AI technology can play an important role. For example, their ability to identify patterns is astounding, as is their ability to sort through large amounts of data in a matter of minutes. Today, it is possible to achieve things that may take a person many years to achieve in just a few minutes by relying on artificial intelligence.

For this reason, we recently launched an executive program at the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence. The program is an integrated 12-week training course designed to help leaders in the public and private sectors better understand the dimensions of AI related to business, ethics and policy making.
This program helps leaders identify opportunities to use artificial intelligence in their sectors, and gives them a broader view of the topics in which the application of artificial intelligence can help overcome the challenges they face.

Achieving national priorities
The use of artificial intelligence is an ideal option to support efforts to achieve the national priorities of the UAE, which include ensuring the best use of the latest information technology solutions. For example, artificial intelligence will enable the UAE to create a healthcare system based on patterns, medical sciences, genetics, environmental factors and patients’ lifestyles to provide personalized care services.

And it doesn’t stop there. In light of what we are witnessing today in the wide spread of connectivity capabilities and smart devices such as smartwatches and wearables, we can use AI to help individuals make better choices in their lives and the levels of care provided to them by ‘ to provide a large amount of usable data. Often this data is only useful if it can be analyzed quickly and accurately to influence treatment decisions – something AI can easily do.
This potential can make a huge difference to public health, and has great room to develop through the use of AI-based technologies. For example, critical decision-making, such as deciding when to turn a service on and off and when to wear a face mask and enforce COVID-19 controls, can be facilitated when AI is used to provide optimal suggestions and help make informed decisions before taking any action.
Another good example of how artificial intelligence can be used to benefit humanity is the UAE Genome Program. This program uses advanced artificial intelligence techniques to analyze the genome and create a reference genome for Emiratis to identify the genetic causes of disease and predict the susceptibility of patients to infection.
AI also has promising uses in the energy sector. Continuous technological advances have helped identify new oil and gas resources faster than ever before. Excavation activities such as seismic surveys are driven by data that can be analyzed and acted upon quickly, improving the discovery process and limiting exploration activities to the production cycle.

Additionally, there are numerous other notable areas affected by AI, such as emerging autonomous transportation systems, smart cities, and student-centered education systems, to name a few.
Without a doubt, artificial intelligence is a technical field, but the new executive program offered by the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence includes sharing in-depth information about the potential of artificial intelligence technologies and the rewarding benefits that can offer it to the country. The program revolves around developing a set of relationships that can help find appropriate solutions to challenges. The program provides a platform that brings together the world’s leading AI experts and senior executives to find optimal solutions to various types of issues facing ministries, agencies and the private sector.
This list of experts includes a faculty that includes some of the most prominent artificial intelligence scientists in the world, formed especially for this program, and represents an extension of the world-class faculty at the university. We wanted to give Executive Program participants access to an exclusive community of top leaders and top AI experts in the region and beyond.

As our graduates work in a variety of different fields and professions, building ongoing personal and professional relationships that they can rely on when additional opinion is needed is essential to achieving the best performance. By working on many projects, we realize that one person can rarely provide solutions on their own. We achieve the greatest success when we work together to find solutions to various individual and shared challenges.
During the executive program courses, participants choose one of the challenges facing the country and work on developing realistic projects to find solutions to them using artificial intelligence. Through this program, the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence contributes to raising awareness about artificial intelligence and addressing the most prominent challenges, in line with the UAE’s long-term strategy and goals.
When decision-makers are properly trained, they can proceed with the application of technologies adapted to their sectors, in collaboration with expert advisors from the university’s faculty. The Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence has all the capabilities needed to help deal with the complex challenges that may come in the way of leaders and turn them into subjects for research and development activities.

Finally, local business leaders must now ask themselves whether or not they want to catch up and participate in this AI-driven paradigm shift.
