Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, this morning, Monday, inspected a number of units affiliated to the Metals Research and Development Center, including (the industrial modeling unit, the powder technology unit, the plasma-enhanced vapor chemical coating unit, the welding unit, the plumbing unit, the ore unit, Mechanical Services Unit), which are set up according to the latest international standards, either at the level of devices or equipment, accompanied by dr. Imad Owais, President of the Centre, Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, Media Advisor and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Anwar Ismail, Executive Director of the Technical Consultancy, Study and Research Fund, and a group of department heads and researchers at the Centre.
The Minister also monitored the technical services units, which are: (X-ray unit, scanning electron microscope unit, XPS X-ray photon spectrometry unit, and the new X-ray unit).
During the visit, the Minister inaugurated the laboratory building, which was developed according to the latest international systems at the level of devices and equipment.
On the sidelines of the visit, the minister inaugurated the exhibition of the center’s outputs, which includes the most prominent industrial products in the exhibition, including the production of cathodic protection anodes of magnesium alloys for the first time in Egypt, the production of aluminum parts and copper alloys as an alternative to the importer, and the production of an empty 4-cylinder diesel engine with a capacity of 2500 ) for the first time in Egypt, the production of Fidelity lobes typically for cutting granite.
Dr. Abdel Ghaffar praised the excellent level of the center’s laboratories and units, emphasizing the state’s zeal to create a scientific environment that encourages researchers and innovators, pointing out the importance of the role played by the Metals Research and Development Center, centers , institutes and other research bodies in the service of Egyptian society, and the linking of scientific research with industry, which points to the need to direct scientific research to priority areas to meet the challenges facing economic growth .
Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar referred to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives to strengthen human cadres in research centers and institutes affiliated with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, work to increase the number of scientific researchers, and double work to reducing imports and encouraging Egyptian industry in the hands of Egyptian researchers.
Dr. Imad Owais gave a presentation on the center during the visit and noted that the center aims to develop products and production processes, replace imports with local alternatives, maximize the use of mineral wealth and its secondary sources, and scientific knowledge in the field of materials science and technology, which refers to the main services provided by the center. Including, analysis and tests of metals, alloys and minerals, including chemical, physical and mechanical analyses, in accordance with specifications, the issuing of approved certificates for the quality of mineral products, using Egyptian mineral resources in various industries as a substitute for imported ores, helping companies to supply parts of special alloys, working to provide production technology and evaluating their performance The transfer of welding technology to all types of alloys with the latest technology.
The head of the center pointed to the role of the center in training and qualifying engineers, technicians and welders on all types of welding and issuing approved qualification certificates, as well as providing technical advice in the selection of metal alloys and their suitability for different operating systems. conditions, as well as consultations in the improvement of production methods and the quality of metal products in addition to ways to maximize the use of Egyptian metal ore, in addition to the production of prototypes of inventions made of metals or plastics.
Adel Abdel Ghaffar, media advisor and official spokesperson for the ministry, said the Metals Research and Development Center was established in 1983 in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Authority (UNIDO) and the center’s vision depends on localizing the industry support and develop. and regionally, providing technical support and transferring technology, and training and qualifying engineers and technicians. In various industrial sectors, the center was restructured during 2021 and included the transformation of the four research departments in the center into technological institutes, where each institute four have specialized departments in which disciplines are integrated, namely (Institute for Materials Technology, Institute for Metal Technology, Institute for Manufacturing Technology, Institute for Advanced Materials).
The official spokesperson added that the center was able to implement more than 420 contractual projects funded by various funding agencies, and it contributed to the transfer of technology to produce new products or develop products or production processes that contributed to the solution of many industrial and environmental problems, and the center also develops the scientific aspect.and academic, and the establishment of specialized technical support units, as well as interest in the international publication of research in leading scientific journals that have a high impact factor, as well as the strengthening of international cooperation with all universities and international research centers in the field of the center’s specializations through the execution of joint projects, and the establishment of companies based on technological packages New benefits for the economy and society.
