The Minister of Higher Education inspects research laboratories at the Metals Research and Development Centre

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, this morning inspected a number of units affiliated to the Metals Research and Development Center, including (industrial modeling unit, powder technology unit, plasma enhanced vapor chemical coating unit, welding unit, plumbing unit, raw materials unit and services unit). mechanical), which have been set up according to the latest international standards, either at the level of devices or equipment, accompanied by dr. Yasser Refaat, deputy minister for scientific research affairs, and Dr. Walid Al-Zawawi, Secretary of the Council of Research Centres, Institutes and Bodies, and Dr. Imad Owais, head of the centre, and Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, media advisor and official spokesperson of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Dr. Anwar Ismail, Executive Director of the Technical Consultancy, Study and Research Fund, and a group of department heads and researchers at the centre.

The Minister also inspected the technical services units, which are: (X-ray unit, scanning electron microscope unit, XPS X-ray photon spectrometry unit, and the new X-ray unit).

During the visit, the Minister inaugurated the laboratory building, which was developed according to the latest international systems at the level of devices and equipment.

On the sidelines of the visit, the Minister inaugurated the exhibition of the outputs of the center, which includes the most prominent industrial products in the exhibition, including the production of cathodic protection anodes of magnesium alloys for the first time in Egypt, the production of parts of aluminum and copper alloys as an alternative to the importer, and the production of an empty diesel 4-cylinder engine with a capacity of 2500 ) for the first time in Egypt, the production of violin lobes typical for cutting granite.

He has dr. Abdel Ghaffar praised the excellent level of the laboratories and units of the center, emphasizing the state’s zeal to create a scientific environment that encourages researchers and innovators, pointing out the importance of the role played by the Metals Research and Development Center , centers, institutes and other research bodies in the service of Egyptian society, and linking scientific research with industry, pointing to the need to direct research Scientific priority areas to face the challenges facing economic growth offer.

Dr. pointed out. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar referred to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives to strengthen human cadres in research centers and institutes attached to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, work to increase the number of scientific researchers, double work to reduce imports and To encourage Egyptian industry in the hands of Egyptian researchers.

During the visit, Dr. Imad Owais gave a presentation on the center and noted that the center aims to develop products and production processes, replace imports with local alternatives, maximize the use of mineral wealth and their secondary sources, and scientific knowledge in the field to enrich materials science and technology. , referring to the main services provided by the center, including, analysis and tests of metals Alloys and metals, including chemical, physical and mechanical analyses, which meet specifications, the issuing of approved certificates for the quality of metal products, the use of Egyptian mineral resources in various industries as a substitute for imported raw materials, assisting companies to provide parts of special alloys, provide production technology and evaluate their performance, and transfer welding technology to all Types of alloys with the latest technology.

The head of the center pointed to the role of the center in training and qualifying engineers, technicians and welders on all types of welding and issuing approved qualification certificates, as well as providing technical advice in the selection of metal alloys and their suitability for different operating systems. conditions, as well as consultations in the improvement of production methods and the quality of metal products in addition to ways to maximize the use of Egyptian metal ore, in addition to the production of prototypes of inventions made of metals or plastics.

Dr. said. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, media advisor and official spokesperson for the ministry, said the Metals Research and Development Center was established in 1983 in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Authority (UNIDO) and the center’s vision depends on localizing the industry support and develop. and regionally, providing technical support and transferring technology, and training and qualifying engineers and technicians in sectors. The center was restructured during 2021 and included the transformation of the four research departments in the center into technological institutes, where each institute has four specialized departments in which disciplines are integrated, namely (Institute for Materials Technology, Institute for Metal Technology, Institute for Manufacturing Technology, Institute for Advanced Materials).

The official spokesperson added that the center was able to implement more than 420 contractual projects funded by various funding agencies, and it contributed to the transfer of technology to produce new products or develop products or production processes that contributed to the solution of many industrial and environmental problems, and the center also develops the scientific and academic aspect. And the establishment of specialized technical support units, as well as interest in the international publication of research in leading scientific journals that have a high impact factor, as well as the strengthening of international cooperation with all universities and international research centers in the field of the center’s specializations through the execution of joint projects, and the establishment of companies based on new technological packages. Benefiting the economy and society.
