UAE’s Hatch and Post Ventures launches World of Farming (WoF), its first agritech startup, to tackle local food security challenges

● Start-up World of Farming (WoF) aims to reduce the high cost of animal feed through its innovative circular farming technology – currently in the process of being patented, which will enable local farmers to produce sustainable, fresh animal feed to grow throughout the year. General in the desert.

● World of Farming (WoF) technology is designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the production and transport of traditional animal feed, the world’s second largest emitter (about 41% of total emissions), through sustainable and local production of feed.

● World of Farming (WoF) is building the first fully integrated sustainable vertical farm with a total production of 3,000 tons of fresh animal feed annually.

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: Hatch & boost Ventures, ADGM – a business incubator specialized in building start-up companies that combine technological innovation with sustainable impact, announced its launch in the markets to transform into companies that invest, develop and can be expanded From its headquarters in Abu Dhabi – announced the launch of “WoF”, the first start-up company in the field of agricultural technologies and added it to its diversified portfolio.

At a time when the world is facing unprecedented food security challenges, exacerbated by rising global temperatures and limited water supplies, start-up World of Farming (WoF) offers a system and methodology for the production of hydroponics (animal feed ) which is the first of its kind for the meat and dairy sectors in the Middle East market, which aims to address these challenges and make the sector more sustainable.

Due to the desert environment that characterizes the UAE and other Gulf countries due to high temperatures, scarcity of arable land and limited fresh water resources, the UAE imports 90%-80% of the food it consumes, including livestock feed she sweeps. In line with the UAE National Food Security Strategy 2051, the World of Farming (WoF) vertical farming model will enable local farmers to produce fresh, economical local alternatives compared to imported animal feed in an efficient and more sustainable manner.

The start-up will be able to achieve this through its integrated farming methodology, an innovative patented technology called “The Cattelyst” which contributes to the sustainable production of animal feed through the use of a closed loop system that works on Reducing methane emissions to prevent them from entering the atmosphere reach.

This approach will provide the local dairy and meat industry with highly nutritious animal feed, produced at lower cost, without pesticides and with up to 90% less water and 90% less land than conventional farming.

In this context, Faris Mesmar, CEO and Managing Partner of Hatch and Post Ventures, said: “Animal agriculture is one of the most damaging industries on our planet today, directly responsible for 14% of greenhouse gas emissions, and responsible for the removal of more than 50 000 hectares of forest are used every day by farmers and loggers, all over the world. This soil erosion leads to habitat loss, doubling of greenhouse gases and disruption of the water cycle. As well as the effects of international shipping in large quantities, and high water consumption. Unfortunately, if we don’t do anything about it today, these unprecedented global challenges we are witnessing will continue to persist.”

On his part, Dr. Walid Saad, CEO and co-founder of World of Farming (WoF), said: “We are taking urgent steps to make farming more sustainable, as vertical farming technology from World of Farming (WoF) will enable farmers across the region to grow their overcome problems. dependence on imported fodder by allowing them to independently and efficiently grow fresh and nutritious fodder on their own farms. By enabling more farmers to use our vertical farms locally, we aim to create a positive multiplier effect not only at the regional level, but also on the supply chains of global livestock farming, and the customers they serve.”

World of Farming (WoF) technology, now BETA ready, that uses data to monitor and adjust agricultural settings to determine the final environment for optimal crop production. The vertical farm tracks these crops as they grow using AI images to monitor health, growth rate and preset for any diseases.

World of Farming (WoF) aims to build, operate and manage farms across the region so that farmers using this technology can have cost-cutting benefits by relieving them of higher feed input costs, loss of nutritional value due to long-term storage, or logistics costs and storage.

Dr added. Saad said: “The launch of World of Farming (WoF) comes at a time of deep geopolitical challenges and tensions around the world. The current global crisis that threatens food security, supply chains are experiencing delays and disruptions that significantly affect farmers and end customers. We see looking forward to expanding the reach of the World of Farming (WoF) in the coming years, to accelerate the practice of sustainable agriculture in the UAE and support it and the region in developing a stronger food security system for our region .

World of Farming (WoF) recently secured its first client contract to build, operate and manage an integrated circular farm in the UAE that will produce a total of 3,000 tonnes of fresh animal feed annually. This comes after the successful completion of its first prototype earlier this year.

The startup is also currently preparing for a funding round to grow and expand its operations in the Middle East and North Africa, including Saudi Arabia.

At the same time, World of Farming (WoF) is working with a number of local universities to empower and engage young people in a research development program aimed at creating local solutions that will help challenge food security.
