In order to achieve the leading role of libraries and the social and economic impact expected of them, the strategy included multiple initiatives that serve the sector, partners and the general community in the belief in the crucial role that libraries play in achieving the objectives of the Ministry of Culture based on the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 as participatory cultural development platforms in an attractive environment, working on capacity development, ensuring continuous education, business development, innovation, invention and workforce development, and ensuring international knowledge exchange and cooperation . An information society that participates in building a knowledge economy The authority relied on a number of inputs in building its strategy, which consisted of the review of more than 110 relevant local, regional and international documents, involving a large number of internal and external stakeholders through interviews, workshops and focus groups, and working with local experts and specialists. The Library Authority’s strategy has defined a vision for the library sector represented in an information society that participates in building the knowledge economy and achieving sustainable development goals.” Its mission was to “empower the library sector community.” In the Kingdom to contribute to economic, educational, social and cultural growth,” while the authority identified five values: interaction, passion, excellence, trust and creativity. 3 Pillars contribute to the growth of the Library Sector The Library Authority’s strategy is based on three strategic pillars which will contribute to the growth of the library sector in general and to the improvement of performance. These include the development of the library sector through planning, development of standards and regulations, studies and statistics, financing and investment, and development of frameworks, while The second pillar was the promotion of community participation; To increase the level of information awareness in the Kingdom by facilitating access to library services, and carrying out awareness and promotion activities to increase the community’s interest in library services, while the third pillar dealt with the development of administrative and operational efficiency, in order to develop the authority’s capacity to lead the sector by ensuring a positive working environment, and to develop the capacity of the authority’s employees to effectively engage local and international stakeholders. 9 Objectives for the Library Authority’s Strategy The Library Authority’s strategy has achieved nine main objectives linked to the three main pillars, including four objectives for the first pillar, which is to support the digital transformation of library services, develop the efficiency of the sector , encourages innovation and investment, and develops the system of funding sources, and three objectives for the second pillar, which is to improve the availability of Access to library services, increase the level of information awareness, improve reading habits and make libraries as centers revive for education, culture and community development The two objectives of the third pillar are the provision of an attractive working environment, the building of advanced internal capabilities, and the activation of local, regional and international partnerships.
