Spain’s Barcelo Hotel Group is opening a luxury hotel in Jakarta

Barcelo Hotels Group has announced the opening of The Orient Jakarta The Royal Hideaway in Jakarta, Indonesia, the group’s newest 5-star hotel. Located in Jakarta’s central business district, this premium hotel is the first hotel opened by the group in the country in an effort to take tourism in the capital to a new level. The hotel, a member of the Leading Hotels of the World, features modern facilities and original interiors designed by the world-renowned architect, Bill Bensley, one of the leading figures in the world of luxury and contemporary hotel design in Asia.

The Orient Jakarta The Royal Hideaway is a 32-storey hotel with 153 rooms divided into eight categories and spread over twelve floors, including Superior, Deluxe, Grand Deluxe Orient and Grand Orient. The hotel also includes luxury suites including the Orient Suite, the Presidential Junior Suite and the Presidential Suite.

The hotel offers visitors and residents of Jakarta the opportunity to enjoy peaceful panoramic views of the city, with a delightful blend of traditional Javanese and Balinese atmosphere. The 5-star hotel also features unique dining experiences offered by Casper Restaurant and Lounge, the hotel’s renowned food and beverage outlet. Food lovers can enjoy modern Spanish cuisine cooked in the open kitchen or try refreshing drinks in the dedicated bar in a private corner of Casper Restaurant, adding to the lively atmosphere. The rooftop will also be transformed into an urban beach club consisting of California Café, two swimming pools, jacuzzis, ballroom and infinity pool bar, all overlooking unparalleled city views.

The Orient Jakarta The Royal Hideaway features a spacious fitness area, which includes a yoga and meditation room, a wellness corner, a sauna room and a weight training area, among many other facilities. The hotel also features seven meeting rooms and lounges with VIP areas, along with an open terrace for events, in addition to five floors of secure parking.

Travel through old Jakarta

On the other hand, Bill Bensley, an architect, landscape designer and interior designer, is well known for his work in the hotel sector. His track record includes notable projects in Southeast Asia. It is also known for its innovative blend of sustainability and environmental conservation, with luxury living. Bensley has won many awards, including the “Leading Hotel in the World” award from the readers of “Conde Nast Traveler” and the AD100 award from “Architectural Digest”, and he has designed more than 200 hotels around the world, the most recent of which was “The Orient Jakarta” project. The beautiful, elegant blend of traditional styles and groundbreaking designs inspired by the hotel’s surroundings, the island’s ancient history, furniture, ornaments and antiques, reflect the richness of Indonesian culture.

The interiors with connotations of local art also combine many elements of handicrafts, which in turn have cultural significance. The decor weaves a story that invites guests to discover the island of Java from within, immersing themselves in its culture. As a result, Bensley worked to intricately integrate Jakarta’s UNESCO cultural heritage into his interior design project, using statues, carvings and paintings made by local artisans.

Expansion into Asia, the Middle East and North Africa

The opening of this new project in Indonesia underlines Barceló Hotel Group’s commitment to expand in Asia. The group currently operates Occidental Paradise Dambulla in Sri Lanka, a 67-room four-star hotel in the ancient city of Dambulla known for its natural beauty and unique cultural heritage. The group also plans to open the Occidental Eden Beruwala hotel in Sri Lanka in May 2023, following the renovation of its entire facilities, to be the group’s second hotel in the country.

The expansion in Sri Lanka is the result of an agreement that Barcelo Hotel Group entered into in 2019 with Browns Investments, a subsidiary of LOLC Group and one of the most important business conglomerates in Sri Lanka. This agreement includes plans to expand in the Maldives, and plans to oversee the construction and management of two new hotels in the tourist destination. The two new hotels, to be opened in December 2022 and the first quarter of 2023 respectively, will consist of a five-star resort on Podovinolu Island and a hotel in Male. As a result, Barceló Hotels Group hopes to manage the construction of a complex of three 5-star hotels in the North Male Atoll in the Maldives in the future.

The group also recently announced the opening of the fully renovated 5-star Barcelo Tangier hotel on the waterfront of Tangier in Morocco. In July 2021, the Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran Group), the executive arm of the Sultanate of Oman for Tourism and Development, commissioned the Spanish hotel chain to manage and operate the Barcelo Resort in the Sultanate of Oman. With these new openings, Barcelo has undoubtedly become the leading Spanish hotel chain in the MENA region, currently operating 20 hotels in five countries, including Morocco, Tunisia, UAE, Egypt and Oman.
