Al-Balqa Applied University offers 4 bachelor’s majors in technical education

Al-Balqa’ Applied University has introduced 4 new majors for the technical bachelor’s program, which is one of the unique disciplines offered for the first time in Jordan and the Middle East, according to University President Ahmed Al-Ajlouni.

He said that these new specializations are a model for global experiences and models in advanced industrial countries such as the European Union, through which we aim to prepare specialized technicians in areas required by the local and regional labor market.

Al-Ajlouni indicated that the first of these four programs is the Organic Agriculture technology program for the undergraduate stage; Since there is a great trend in Jordan towards organic agriculture through the Ministry of Agriculture, the Jordan River Foundation and the Association of Agricultural Engineers, where the Organic Agriculture Association was established in collaboration with the Association of Agricultural Engineers, which aims to to encourage the transition. to organic agriculture.

The Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture has attracted international projects in the field of organic agriculture and conducted guidance campaigns to encourage farmers to enter this field as a new investment opportunity. Currently, there are more than twenty farms working in the organic farming system that have accreditation certificates and market their organic products.

He pointed out that the program consists of 132 credit hours spread over four years (8 semesters), of which 72 credit hours are from the level of the first and second year. It is held by Al-Balqa Applied University, which houses is at the sixth level in the National Qualifications Framework.

After completing the requirements of the study plan (132 credit hours), the student obtains a technical bachelor’s degree, which is located in the seventh level in the National Qualification Framework, and the practical component forms (60%) as a minimum of the study plan, including (9) credit hours. Dedicated to field training and work experience/professional practice, and (6) credit hours for a practical and applied graduation project.

The second program is the Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Service Technology Program for the Technical Bachelor’s Degree; Al-Ajlouni said that to meet the expected and increasing demand for technicians and technicians capable of providing service and maintenance for modern vehicles, including the advanced technology they include, and in line with the vision and mission of Al-Balqa Applied University, and given the availability of infrastructure and technology to start implementing the program, the university decided to launch this program.

He emphasized that jobs are available and will increase due to the entry of new technology into the world of vehicles that require additional competencies and skills to handle electric and hybrid vehicles, and jobs will continue to increase as long as the demand for vehicles increases. .

Al-Ajlouni pointed out that the third program is the hydraulic system technology program in heavy machinery, and explained that the university seeks to develop technical and applied programs at various levels to meet the needs of the current and future labor market, and given the existence of jobs in the local and regional market estimated at thousands for technicians who can deal with High-capacity hydraulic systems, the development of this program comes in response to the requirements of the labor market due to the absence of such a program at the local or regional level, as the infrastructure and technology at Al-Balqa Applied University and its various external colleges are suitable to start teaching the program.

Regarding the jobs available in this program, Al-Ajlouni said that based on the studies carried out by the Syndicate of Mechanical Professions, jobs, estimated at thousands, are currently available in the field of installation, operation, maintenance and management of hydraulic systems in heavy machinery, in addition to the fact that specialization is required in the military. conduct training courses for technicians and mechanical engineers to enable them to work in hydraulic installations.

And he indicated that the fourth program is the air conditioning and refrigeration technology program, explaining that to achieve the vision of Al-Balqa Applied University, which is to work on creating opportunities for quality university education to contribute to the preparation of technical cadres to meet the needs and requirements of the changing labor market, Al-Balqa Applied University saw the need to develop an air conditioning and refrigeration technology program to be in line with change technology that has occurred in this field.

Regarding the available jobs, Al-Ajlouni said that the rapid spread of air conditioning, refrigeration and ventilation systems in various domestic and industrial areas, especially after the expansion of smart buildings and the use of renewable energy for heating purposes, and the development of heat- and humidity control techniques require the preparation of qualified technical cadres to operate and maintain the work of these systems.

It is expected that job opportunities will be available at companies and institutions involved in the marketing, installation and maintenance of air conditioning and refrigeration systems, as well as at institutions and offices concerned with the design of these systems, and the graduate can create his own project and along with that without the need for a job.

Al-Ajlouni explained that these programs will be supported by the German Organization for International Cooperation (GIZ), as a German expert will be attracted at the beginning of the academic year to follow up the implementation of these programs.

He said that in these disciplines, a student can obtain a diploma and a bachelor’s degree, and that he has two options, either to obtain a diploma after studying for two years and complete his studies, or after four years to complete to obtain a technical bachelor’s degree.

Al-Ajlouni pointed out that the practical component of these disciplines is 60%, and they focus on practical training more than theoretical, and the required rate for these technical disciplines is 70% in high school, with the exception of smart organic agriculture, the condition for admission is to pass in high school at a rate of 65%, in addition. The number of program hours is 132 for the bachelor’s degree and 72 for the diploma, and more technical specializations will be offered during the next two years.

He pointed out that (9) programs at the level of the intermediate university degree have been developed and will be accepted at the beginning of this academic year, which include business intelligence, data science, financial technology, shelter technicians, electronic technology, welding and plumbing technology, modern agricultural techniques, agricultural machinery engineering, electronic technology, environmental management, and these programs come in collaboration with the Korea Development Agency (KOICA), noting that the university sent 24 teachers to a training course in Korea for a period of two. months for practical training in the largest companies’ factories in South Korea, to transfer this experience and expertise to our students in these specialties.

Al-Ajlouni indicated that a specialization has been created at Al-Hosn College for a bachelor’s degree in alternative energy engineering, as well as a laboratory for electric and hybrid cars has been opened in it to train students in practice. There will also be a fashion design department at Salt Technical College, and the college will be provided with design laboratories.

He emphasized the university’s focus on the technical disciplines required by the local, regional and global labor market and in which they can be self-reliant, and urged students to move towards technical education as the student thereby being able to move towards self-employment in the absence of work.
