Team tips, schedule, format and TV coverage when the USA faces the international team – Yalla Match

Less than 12 months after their big win over the Europeans in the Ryder Cup, Team USA is looking to defend their Presidents Cup title against the international team.

Americans have only been defeated once at this event, in 1998, and are undefeated at home. Tiger Woods was the captain when he led his team to victory in Melbourne three years ago, although America had to come from behind on the final day.

The hosts are the favorites this week, against an international side badly depleted by players who have joined LIV Golf and are therefore ineligible to compete.

Here’s everything you need to know about the 2022 Presidents Cup…

What is the date of the Presidents Cup 2022?

The Presidents Cup starts on Thursday 22 September and runs for four days, with the final matches to be held on Sunday 24 September.

It takes place in Quail Hollow in North Carolina. The course hosts the Wells Fargo Championship on the PGA Tour, which Rory McIlroy has won three times, and was also the site of the 2017 PGA Championship. Justin Thomas won that year.

How to watch the 2022 Presidents Cup

TV channels: The event will be broadcast on Sky Sports Golf. Coverage begins at 17:30 GMT on Thursday and Friday, with an early start time on Saturday at 12:00 due to two sessions being played.

The last day is shown on Sunday from 17:00 on the same channel.

broadcast live: Sky Sports subscribers will be able to watch the four days via the Sky Go app.

Who is on the US team?

Whole team: Patrick Cantlay, Justin Thomas, Xander Shaveli, Sam Burns, Scotty Scheffler, Tony Fino, Jordan Spieth, Colin Morikawa, Max Homma, Billy Hurschel, Kevin Kessner, Cameron Young.

Team Captain: Davis Love III

Seven of last year’s record-breaking Ryder Cup victory over Team Europe follow this week as the United States desperately tries to pull off a similar all-out victory.

Will Zalatoris was scheduled to appear, but a back injury prevented him from competing in the Tour and Presidents Cup.

Davis Love III had six captain’s picks, while the other six players qualified automatically. His picks were Jordan Spieth, Colin Morikawa, Max Homa, Billy Hurschel, Kevin Kesner, Cameron Young.

Only Kissner, a man who loves to play games, is outside the top 20 in the world, in an incredibly strong American team. World number one Scottie Scheffler is playing in his first Presidents Cup, while Huma arrived full of confidence after winning the Fortinet Championship last week, the first event of the new PGA Tour season.

Patrick Cantlay and Xander Shaveli have enjoyed success together in team events in the past and are likely to play against each other again, with Thomas and Spieth another natural pairing.

Horschel finally got his chance on the US team, while Morikawa was an obvious choice despite not winning last season. His impressive Ryder Cup appearance included three matches with Dustin Johnson, who were not involved with other Liv defectors.

Who is on the international team?

Whole team: Hideki Matsuyama, Songjae M, Tom Kim, Corey Conners, Mito Pereira, Adam Scott, Taylor Pendrith, Sebastian Munoz, Se Woo Kim, Cam Davis, Christian Bezuidenhout, KH Lee.

Team Captain: Trevor Immelman

While Team USA has been somewhat affected by the ban on LIV golfers, their strength in depth and largely poor form for Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka before moving away from the PGA Tour means this absence is not particularly significant.

On the other hand, the international team is clearly weak. Cameron Smith and Joaquin Neiman were the stars of the team, and among those who definitely took part were Abraham Ansser, Mark Leishman and Louis Oosthuizen.

As it stands, Trevor Immelman has eight up-and-comers on his team and they step into the role of the big underdogs. The likes of Hideki Matsuyama, Adam Scott and Sungjae Im will have to put in big performances, with those three being the only survivors of the team in Melbourne. Matsuyama is the national team’s 18th tallest player in the world – Team USA has just two players less than that.

I gave 3.5 points on his debut, as any player on either side, and finished in the top 15 in all of his last five tournaments. Tom Kim won his first PGA Tour event earlier in the summer, while Mito Pereira was within driving distance of winning the PGA Championship in May.

Christian Beswedenhout has set-up abilities to prove a frustrating match-up opponent, and Canadian duo Corey Conners and Taylor Pendrith can make the best of each other as pairs.

The complete schedule and formula for the 2022 Presidents Cup
