Under the patronage of The United Bank, the team from Cairo University, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Architecture will participate in the Paris International Design Show with a distinguished set of innovative and environmentally friendly furniture designs under the name “LUCID”, in France from September 9 to 15 2022.
The Egyptian group “LUCID” was honored by the visit of the First Lady of France, Brigitte Macron, the wife of Emmanuel Macron, President of the Republic of France to their stand on the first day of the opening of the Paris International Design Week 2022.
Brigitte Macron exchanged a dialogue with the Cairo University team about designs, and the concept of reviving and recycling building material waste to produce sustainable and environmentally friendly furniture pieces to counter the risks of climate change.
The first lady praised the innovative furniture and modern solutions to fit different spaces produced by LUCID and already on sale during the first days of Design Week. She also supported the LUCID team with words and motivation to continue to achieve sustainability, and she expressed her happiness to represent the Egyptian youth at the Paris International Exchange 2022 in France.
LUCID is the only Egyptian brand represented in PARIS DESIGN WEEK FACTORY for young and creative design talents. LUCID received good feedback from visitors, who stopped at their booth from good feedback and recommendations from designers, professors and professionals from various fields to the press and visitors who were just interested in design or recycling.
Commenting on their participation, the team from Cairo University, Faculty of Engineering, LUCID Foundation says that they are happy to invite them to try our designs and get their opinions, as LUCID was initially designed specifically for humans, under the special support from dr. Mohsen Abul-Naga, Professor of Sustainable Environment at the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University.
They added that the designs were admired by a large number of visitors of different ages and nationalities. It was an experience for LUCID and gave us more inspiration to develop and introduce new concepts to users.
About the concept behind the first LUCID designs:
LUCD is the ideal solution to the problems of waste materials arising from construction by thinking critically about the concept of recycling and producing realistic and innovative furniture in an era of rapid construction development, which is in line with the outcomes of the United Nations Climate Conference 2021 (COP 26) in Glasgow and United Nations Climate Conference 2022 (COP 27). ), which will be held in November in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
LUCID was founded by three Egyptian architects, “John”, “Ola” and “Taqqa Khalifa”. Those who are inspired by the construction waste resulting from the continuous construction and building operations to think about recycling the waste and the remains of building materials (iron – cement – crushed marble) and turning them from waste into innovative, colorful and to transform attractive urban furniture, in addition to an aesthetic form, and it can be used in public spaces Urban and private external spaces.

About the exhibition
The Paris exhibition was attended by about 25 brands from various countries, including Egypt, together with the Cairo University team, Faculty of Engineering. This is in addition to 60 participants from various countries, such as: France, the United States of America, South Korea, Belgium, Kuwait, the United Kingdom, Lebanon, Romania, Iran and Switzerland. For eight days every year in August, Paris Design Week invites French, international professionals and the general public to discover the best design shows in Paris, while talent gathers at the fair.
The event was organized by prestigious French event planning company MAISON&OBJET; Based in Paris, serving professionals in home decor, interior design, architecture and lifestyle culture.
The event unites 250 participants who proudly promote first-class designs in Paris.
