For her part, Omar bin Laden’s wife, Zina (age 67), married six times, who described Omar as her “soulmate”, said that he suffers from “severe shock, tension and panic attacks”.

Zeina believes he suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder after the 9/11 attacks – which led to him seeking therapists and medication.

Zeina once said: “Omar loves and hates Osama at the same time. He loves him because he is his father, but he hates what he did.”

The Sun correspondent spoke to Omar in his studio in a villa in Qatar, where he and Zeina – who lives in Normandy, France – are on a short holiday.

Omar left Afghanistan in April 2001, just five months before the 9/11 attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people.

Recalling his last conversation with his father, he said: “I said goodbye. I am tired of this world. My father was not happy that I was going.”

Omar was in Qatar on May 2, 2011 when he heard the news that US Navy SEALs had killed his father in a hideout in Pakistan.

The body of Osama bin Laden

According to “The Sun”, Omar did not shed tears for his murdered father.

He identified the body of his brother Khaled from photos posted online of the stormed compound in Abbottabad.

The official American version says that Bin Laden’s body was buried at sea from the giant aircraft carrier “USS Carl Vinson” within 24 hours of his death.

Omar is skeptical and adds: “It would have been much better to bury my father and find out where his body is. But they didn’t give us the chance. I don’t know what they did to him. They say they threw it in the sea but I don’t believe it. I think they took his body to America for people to see.”

“The shadow of his father hangs over him”

Omar’s artwork, which sells for up to £8,500 apiece, is a cure – as his father’s looming shadow still hangs over him.” According to “The Sun”

Omar (bin Laden’s fourth eldest child) was born in March 1981 in Saudi Arabia to Najwa, bin Laden’s first wife.

In 1991, bin Laden was expelled from Saudi Arabia for insulting the United States after he formed al-Qaeda to fight the Soviet Union in Afghanistan in 1988.

The family moved to Sudan, North Africa, where many of Bin Laden’s jihadist fighters worked in farming and road construction.

Banned from entering Britain, Omar showed his vivid painting of his father’s sunflower crop, surrounded by the high mountains of Sudan.

The United States accused bin Laden, the father, of running training camps in Sudan, and the authorities asked him to leave.

By May 1996, he was back in the mountains of Tora Bora in Afghanistan, and chose 15-year-old Omar to accompany him, later along with his mother and siblings.

“I have been in Afghanistan for five years,” he said.

Omar learned to shoot a Kalashnikov rifle and drive a Russian tank, but he didn’t like it when militants started killing his pets to test chemical weapons.

He once recalled: “My father did not ask me to join Al-Qaeda, but told me that I was the son chosen to carry on his work. He was disappointed when I said I wasn’t suitable for that life.”

When asked today why he thinks his father chose him as his heir, he tells me, “I don’t know, maybe because I was smarter, and that’s why I’m alive today.”

The Sun correspondent, who interviewed Omar bin Laden, said that the latter bears a striking resemblance to his father, but his eyes lack the sparkle of the late Al-Qaeda leader.
