The Sultanate of Oman has launched a new initiative based on the use of golf as a motivational ambassador to promote the Sultanate’s tourism potential to the Italian public, as well as the enormous investment opportunities in which the Sultanate abounds.

The initiative came as a result of the constructive dialogue on the sidelines of the golf meetings between His Excellency Francisco Blau Jreg, Honorary Consul of the Sultanate of Oman in Milan, Republic of Italy, and Mr. Ali Dawood, CEO of Dawood Group, where the two parties confirmed in their dialogue that golf can be exploited to bring the two countries closer together. After a year of these meetings and dialogues, this idea crystallized into a tangible reality through this joint initiative launched today with the blessing of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, and with great national support.

The initiative of the “Oman Golf Cup” is to invite Italians and Europeans in general to explore the tourism experiences that abound in the Sultanate, in addition to the favorable investment opportunities. The initiative comes under the supervision of the Oman Golf Association ( and the sponsorship of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, in addition to technical and material support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Investment Promotion, as well as a number of prestigious Omani companies such as Oman Air, the Group Omani International Holding, The Zubair Corporation, Al Mouj Golf, Kempinski Hotel Muscat, and Dawood Group.

The initiative was launched this morning at a press conference at Kempinski Hotel Muscat under the patronage of His Excellency Basil bin Ahmed Al Rawas, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Sports and Youth. This initiative embodies the true meaning of solidarity and partnership between the public and private sectors in order to promote the Sultanate as a unique destination for tourism and investment, and the importance of active participation In the national efforts to achieve the vision of Oman 2040 AD reach.

Munther Al Barwani, President of the Oman Golf Association, has been appointed to manage the coordination efforts of this promotional initiative on behalf of the Sultanate’s government.
