Sharjah Sustainable City celebrates a year full of successes in its journey towards sustainable living

Sharjah, United Arab Emirates: Sharjah Sustainable City, the first sustainable residential community in the Emirate of Sharjah developed in collaboration between the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) and Diamond Developers, announced the achievement of a set of achievements during the year 2022, following the high demand that met the city’s tendency to promote a lifestyle of sustainable living.

During the past year, the city has witnessed the complete sale of the first two phases, including 604 villas with a modern, spacious design, and the launch of the third phase, which includes 324 villas. All phase one units have been delivered, while phase two and phase three units will be delivered in 2023 and 2024 respectively.

The handing over of the first group of villas to their owners was a milestone in the city’s journey during 2022, as it represents the city’s transition from a real estate project to a residential community full of more than 110 families living their sustainable lives in their new started homes and enjoy the many environmental and economic benefits the city has to offer.

Commenting on the subject, Mr. Yousef Al Mutawa, CEO of Sharjah Sustainable City, said in his message: “I am pleased to see the tremendous progress we have made in Sharjah Sustainable City by the end of this year, bringing us closer to our goal of to become the first environmentally friendly city in the heart of the Emirate of Sharjah. We achieved remarkable achievements this year thanks to the support of our partners, our team of employees and of course our homeowners. I would like to thank each of them for supporting our journey towards building a sustainable society that seeks to achieve a better future for future generations.”

Spread over an area of ​​7.2 million square feet in the Al Rahmaniyah area of ​​Sharjah, Sharjah Sustainable City, a leading eco-friendly residential community, promotes a future-proof lifestyle. It includes 1,250 sustainable villas spread over four phases, consisting of three, four and five bedrooms, ranging in size from 2,035 to 3,818 square feet.

The sustainable housing project is in line with the national efforts related to the interdependence between water, food and energy, as it offers practical solutions in the field of food security and management of water and energy consumption, in addition to the conservation of natural resources.

The city is equipped with renewable energy produced by solar panels, built using sustainable materials and highly efficient thermal designs, in order to reduce utility bills and operating costs, allowing residents to save up to 50% on water and electricity bills. The city offers free services for the first five years, as well as kitchens equipped with energy-efficient appliances and smart home features.

The sustainable city of Sharjah embraces a range of public amenities, such as parks, gyms, swimming pools, a shopping mall, walking and cycling paths and sustainable means of transport. The city also includes agricultural facilities to support food security efforts, relying in part on agricultural houses equipped with solar energy called greenhouses, which produce approximately 10,000 kilograms of chemical-free vegetables annually, and this is expected to increase production to 15,000 kilograms into the future.

The city contributes to the achievement of many sustainable development goals of the United Nations, especially the sixth goal to ensure access to water and sanitation, as the sustainable city of Sharjah has a wastewater treatment plant, and the seventh goal, which on a number of things focus, inter alia, on ensuring universal access to affordable services Modern, reliable and sustainable energy, and largely increasing dependence on renewable energy.

Over the past year, the city has seen a significant increase in the number of people contacting to learn more about the housing project, which represents a radical change in the concept of future cities and urban planning, and the growing interest in

environment and sustainable living. The city plans to organize community outreach programs to raise awareness of sustainability, with a special focus on women, youth and children.
